With the blessing of the Abbot of the Holy Bigorski Monastery, Bishop Antaniski Partenij, and to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the foundation of our millennium-old spiritual beacon, a professional team led by director Ilija Iko Karov has been preparing a documentary film titled “1000 Years – Witness of the Light” over the past 2.5 (ed. note: 5 years) years.
This is a film that not only marks the significant Jubilee but also captures the spiritual monastic continuity throughout a whole millennium.
“Many of you, in one way or another, are already aware that a documentary film about the Bigorski Monastery was being shot – a film that mostly relates to the numerous faithful with whom, together, we celebrated Easter and Christmas five times in a row.
Now, at the end of this process that lasted a full five years, we want to primarily gift this film to you and, of course, to all of you who are lovers of authorial documentary films.
Realizing how much the monastery, the monks, the services, and above all, the spiritual leadership of the Bigorski Elder, Bishop Partenij, mean to you, after some consideration and in consultation with the Bigorski community, we unanimously decided that although we still have certain protocols due to the coronavirus, nothing will prevent us from delivering the film titled “1000 Years – Witness of the Light” to all of you who have long been anticipating it,” said Ilija Iko Karov.
Perhaps we cannot have a hundred premieres due to the current protocols, but we can, with a clear conscience and without a shred of hesitation, forgo all film festivals! Therefore, if not everyone can attend the premiere, then the premiere can come to everyone!
In that context, on April 15th, starting at 7:30 PM, “1000 Years – Witness of the Light” will be available to watch on MRTV, our YouTube channel, and the film’s Facebook page!
Just so you know: by uploading the film online, we, the authorial team, lose all rights to participate in film festivals. But that does not at all make us feel like we have lost something. On the contrary, all of you, together with the hermits from Bigorski, are our greatest reward received through this film!
